The Lake Burton Civic Association is a member-supported nonprofit founded in 1968 to protect and enhance Lake Burton, Georgia. We are the people who live on, visit, and love this lake — working together on water quality, community events, and the long-term stewardship of the watershed.
What membership supports and includes
- Water Quality The water quality team’s efforts include water testing and aquatic plant monitoring across eight lake zones. The team also organizes annual cleanup days in partnership with Georgia Power, ensuring the lake remains pristine.
- Water Safety is another cornerstone, with Water Safety team leading educational outreach. From hosting Department of Natural Resources (DNR) safety meetings to producing videos and distributing boating safety cards, LBCA works tirelessly to promote responsible lake behavior. They aim to help boaters navigate safely, reducing accidents and enhancing enjoyment for all.
- Preservation efforts are gaining momentum, particularly around Billy Goat Island, where erosion threatens the shoreline and tree canopy. The Shoreline Protection team is collaborating with Georgia Power to develop a restoration plan, including permitting and mapping. Though the project faces logistical hurdles, LBCA is committed to protecting this cherished natural landmark.
- Community Building remains a vibrant part of LBCA’s mission. From the popular Summer Vibes concerts to the Wooden Boat Parade, the Ski Patriots, the Tour of Homes, and the Annual LBCA Golf Tournament, the association fosters connection and celebration. The LBCA Foundation Grants Program awards $100,000 annually to Volunteer Fire Departments and Rabun County charitable organizations, while the Scholarship Program awarded an impressive $200,000 to 25 local students in 2025.
