Lake Burton Water Quality Committee Seeks Volunteers After Successful Training

The Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA) Committee for Water Quality is ramping up its efforts to preserve Lake Burton's pristine waters for future generations. With recent successes and expanding partnerships, the committee is now calling for more volunteers to join its crucial mission.

Recent Accomplishments and Partnerships

The LBCA has been actively forging partnerships with key organizations such as Georgia Power, Georgia EPD, and the Savannah Riverkeeper to address critical Lake Burton issues. These collaborations enhance the committee's ability to combat erosion, siltation, and invasive species.

In a significant development, the Savannah Riverkeeper recently hired Lawrie Jordan, a GIS expert who will focus on the Upper Savannah River. Jordan brings his extensive knowledge and eager students from the University of Georgia, who will study Lake Burton as part of their curriculum.

Water Quality Monitoring Program Expands

On Sunday, August 25, a training session for Lake Burton residents interested in becoming certified water quality monitors was conducted. This four-and-a-half-hour session equipped volunteers with the skills to gather crucial data on the lake's water quality.

Last year, 14 LBCA members became certified and collected valuable data, which was shared with the Riverkeepers. This information has provided additional insights into the health of Lake Burton's waters.

Call for More Volunteers

While the recent training session was a success, the LBCA Committee for Water Quality emphasizes the urgent need for more volunteers. Certified water testers are tasked with conducting tests once a month from April through October. Your contribution is crucial to maintaining the health of Lake Burton.

"We're thrilled with the enthusiasm we've seen so far, but there's always room for more helping hands," said Yolanda Adrean, Water Quality Chair. "The more volunteers we have, the more comprehensive our data collection can be, which is crucial for maintaining the health of Lake Burton."

How to Get Involved

The LBCA Committee on Water Quality offers various opportunities for involvement beyond water testing. We encourage those interested in joining the committee or participating in projects focused on erosion control, siltation prevention, or combating invasive species to reach out. Your participation is vital to our community's efforts to preserve Lake Burton.
