Lake Burton Civic Association

The Lake Burton Civic Association Foundation is proud to honor a life of service by establishing its first endowed scholarship, a poignant tribute to Carter Rhoad. As Dan Marlow, the Lake Burton Civic Association president, said: "When this happened to Carter, we had a lot of people who said 'we need to do something.'"

Key points about the scholarship:

• The Lake Burton Civic Association Foundation is establishing its first-ever endowed scholarship fund: the Carter Rhoad Memorial Scholarship.
• The scholarship will provide $14,000 ($3,500 annually for four years) to a Rabun County High School Senior.
• It specifically targets at-risk or first-generation college students to provide financial assistance throughout their undergraduate education.
• The funding goal to establish the endowment is $70,000, with the foundation already committing a minimum of $5,000. This is a testament to our community's dedication to supporting education.
• The first scholarship will be available for a student from the Class of 2026.
• The scholarship represents more than just financial aid. It's a meaningful opportunity to honor Carter's memory while significantly impacting the lives of Rabun County students for generations to come.
We are deeply grateful for any contributions. Donations can be made to the North Georgia Community Foundation at 340 Jesse Jewell Pkwy, Suite 605, Gainesville, GA 30501 (memo: Carter Rhoad Scholarship Fund) or by clicking here.

About Carter Rhoad

In April 2024, Carter Rhoad and two Australian friends were found murdered just over the American border inside Mexico in what appears to have been a robbery.

We encourage you to read the attached article about Carter's life to gain a deeper understanding of the person behind the scholarship—special thanks to The Clayton Tribune for this story about Carter.

As Hal Rhoad expressed about his son's legacy: "I believe Carter figured out how blessed he was, and he wanted to give back." This scholarship ensures his spirit of giving will continue for generations.
