As Summer Approaches . . .

As summer approaches, activity is firing up on the lake.  Please click on the calendar tab to see the upcoming events.  There are two great opportunities to volunteer to help beautify the lake:  the Lake Burton Park Work Day on May 11th and the Lake Burton Clean Up Day on May 31st.  The annual membership meeting and dinner will be on June 8th and there is much more.
It is also time to think about water and boating safety and to familiarize your family with the boating rules of the road:

  • All boat operators must slow to idle speed when they are within 100 feet of docks, piers, bridges, shorelines or people in the water.
  • When meeting another vessel, boat operators should pass on the right side (just like in a car) unless the boats are far enough apart that they are not meeting head on or close to head on.
  • On narrow rivers and streams, stay as far right as possible and be careful when rounding bends and curves and overtaking or passing other boats.
  • In a crossing situation, the boat on the right should hold its course and the boat on the left should slow down and cross behind the other boat.
  • Powerboats always should yield to sailboats.
  • People under the age of 16 must pass an official Georgia boating safety course before being allowed to operate a boat.  This course can be taken online at:  Boating Safety Course.
